Project Type: Community-Based Art & Cultural Engagement
Leading Artist: Hao Feng Collaborators: Local artists, art lovers, local residents, and cultural organizations
The Traditional Chinese Art Immersion is an interactive, community-driven event that brings traditional Chinese painting and Chinese paper cutting to life through innovative techniques and immersive experiences. Since 2019, this initiative has provided free, hands-on engagement at Summit High School, Lawton C. Johnson Summit Middle School, Vito A. Gallo Senior Building, and the Summit Free Public Library, fostering cultural appreciation and artistic exploration.
The 2024 edition, hosted by Artist Hao Feng at Han Academy, NJ and supported by 2024 HEART (History, Education, Arts Reaching Thousands) Grant from the Union County Board of County Commissioners, saw record participation, reinforcing the significance of making Chinese art accessible to a broad audience. Participants engaged in workshops, artist-led demonstrations, and exhibitions showcasing both traditional and contemporary approaches to Traditional Chinese Art. The event’s overwhelming success has paved the way for an even more dynamic 2025 edition.
Through collaborations with local artists, students, residents, and cultural organizations, Traditional Chinese Art Immersion continues to create a vibrant platform for learning, creativity, and cultural exchange. By blending tradition with innovation, this project ensures that Traditional Chinese art remains a dynamic, evolving practice, engaging new generations and expanding its cultural impact.
